Extract editable text from a JPEG, PNG or WebP without an account. Recognition runs on your device; the engine and selected language models download from this site.
Recognize, then check the text
This tool uses Tesseract.js for printed text. Choose English or an optional Hindi/Malayalam model with English, correct the image rotation, and review the editable result. Handwriting, complex layouts and tables can perform poorly. No accuracy percentage, layout preservation or perfect transcription is promised.
The first run downloads several megabytes of engine/model data; optional languages add downloads. Your server still sees ordinary asset requests, including the chosen model names, but the selected image and recognized text are not uploaded. Models may remain in the browser's HTTP cache. This tool does not save your images or text to local storage.
Choose an image or try the sample
One JPEG, PNG or WebP per run. Maximum 20 MB, 16 million decoded pixels and 8,000 pixels on either edge. PDF, HEIC and SVG are not supported. Devices may have lower practical limits.
Preview selected image (original orientation)
Use the language actually present; extra languages do not always improve recognition. Compressed model files are approximately 3 MB for English, plus 1.4 MB for Hindi or 2.8 MB for Malayalam, in addition to the engine. Rotation applies during recognition; the input preview remains unchanged. Speed and results vary by device and model.
Select an image. Engine files are loaded only when recognition starts.
Editable recognized text
Check names, amounts, dates, punctuation and reading order against the image. Engine confidence is not a measured accuracy rate.
Try a reproducible sample
The sample button creates an image locally with three printed lines: INVOICE 12345, Total INR 250.00, and Printed text sample. Choose English and no rotation, then inspect the recognized result. This is a bounded demonstration, not a benchmark of real documents, every language, or handwriting.
Improve the input, then verify the output
Use a clear, upright image with sufficient contrast. Choose the language present and correct 90°/180°/270° rotation explicitly. The tool does not reconstruct tables or export Word/PDF layout. Read the OCR checking workflow for a claim-by-claim comparison method.
Engine and data handling
Recognition uses Tesseract.js, with pinned worker, WebAssembly and selected trained-data assets served by this site. The worker is terminated after each run or cancellation. Ordinary HTTP asset caching can persist engine/models, but the tool does not deliberately persist image or recognized text. Copying or saving creates a separate clipboard/file copy that Clear does not erase.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are my files sent to an OCR service?
No. Image bytes are passed to a worker on your device. The engine and selected language models download from this site. Shared page analytics and normal connection requests are separate from the image/text processing.
Which files and languages can I use?
JPEG, PNG and WebP images, one at a time. English is the default; optional Hindi + English and Malayalam + English models are available. Results vary by script, print quality and layout. PDF, HEIC and SVG are not supported by this page.
Does confidence mean accuracy?
No. Confidence is the OCR engine's own score, not a measurement against a correct transcript. Always check names, numbers, punctuation and the reading order yourself.
Can I cancel startup or recognition?
Yes. Cancel terminates the active worker and rejects its pending jobs, including startup/model initialization. An outstanding browser decode may finish before its memory is released; stale jobs cannot replace a newer result.
Does Clear remove everything?
Clear removes this tool's current image, preview URL and text, and stops an active job. It does not erase saved downloads, the system clipboard or the browser's ordinary cache of program/model assets.
