Choosing a VPN: connection and privacy checks
Match a VPN to a defined need and inspect its limits. Provider examples are research starting points, not tested winners.

Define the task first
A VPN changes which network operator can observe parts of a connection; it does not make every activity anonymous, verify a website, or replace HTTPS. Decide whether you need protection on an untrusted network, access to an organizational network, or another specific use case. A free tier's data allowance alone cannot establish that it suits the task.
What to check
- Identify the exact provider, app publisher, platform and plan; avoid look-alike downloads.
- Read the privacy policy, account requirements and any audit's scope and date rather than inferring trust from branding.
- Check data limits, server selection, connection behavior, cancellation terms and device support on official pages.
- Test reconnecting, sleep/wake and a failed connection with non-sensitive traffic; record whether traffic continues outside the tunnel.
- Assess the laws, workplace rules and service conditions that apply to your use; no India-wide connectivity or streaming claim is made here.

Write a two-column connection log: expected behavior and observed behavior when connecting, disconnecting and changing networks. Record the app version and configuration. This is a test you can perform, not a claim that we ran it for these examples.
